snow snow snow.

the snow is still falling in nova scotia.
december has been a month for soft sweaters, tufty boots and toques.
taking wintry walks down the tree lined streets.
resting for cocoa at some small cafes.
then heading home again as a four before the next snow falls.

a christmas of two parts.

christmas passed by so swiftly. it was filled with cc's excitement though. it seems he is the perfect age to share that wonderful christmassy feeling and that endless anticipation.
snow was falling all through the holidays making it seem like a christmas of two definite parts. those bitter snowy walks with cc's pa snapping away on his camera. and our snug hours spent as a four inside - toasting clements first ever christmas and getting carried along with cc's wonder, from finding santa claus had been: 'look he ate some muffin. and the reindeer pooped by the fire.' to the 'presents, wow presents.'. it was a simple and truly special christmas.

sneaky the fox.

sneaky the stuffed red fox moved in a few days ago.
a christmas gift for cc from his lovely little pre-school.
and one he seems so taken with.
cc settled on naming him 'sneaky - sneaky the sneaky old fox' straight away.
taking him outside to prance around and perform a miniature show in the snow.
and making the funniest mr fox voices as only this three year old little mister would.
merry eve of christmas eve.
from cc and his treasured sneaky.

wolfville.

sometimes an adventure is needed. and when cc has his way that means traveling by automobile. so a little over a week ago cc's pa rented a car and the four of us set off down the highway towards the valley.
cc sang along to some christmas tunes, stopping now and then to talk about the towering trees outside ('lets pick that one for chripsmass please!') while little clement slipped in and out of sleep alongside him. we rested at a town called wolfville, where one after another of the tumbledown wooden houses wore for sale signs. cc's pa chose a pub for lunch, then on our wander about the town stumbled across an amazing antiquarian bookstore. the small car trunk was soon filled with cinnamon buns, wonderful secondhand books and two fine christmas trees.
thank you for a fine visit wolfville, will be back soon. we promise.

around mabel.

the soft snow has fallen. and for the first time this winter everything is white once more. still sixteen days to go until christmas too. so it seems the nova scotian winter has settled in and there will be months of minus temperatures ahead now.
mabel stands handsome in the snow. the antique radiators are tinking and clattering as they warm tiny sweaters and dry out damp snow socks.
these are some pictures from around mabel this week. cc is in wonder that his little brother is now trying out some solids, so tries to sneak him titbits each mealtime. "clement you want my spinach? its warm. good for making your tummy warm clement. try it then you say mmmm, more please."

clement on a tuesday.

sometimes his sore gums trouble him.
and his tongue pokes out.
sometimes he tries so hard to sit up on his own
then topples right down.
normally his snoozes are short lived and take place on his mamas front.
and he feels sure night times are made for nursing.
mostly he watches his big brother nonstop
and smiles contentedly each time he is smiled at.
this is the world of mister clement frank.

hannukah.

sunday morning we stood around the stove turning cottage cheese pancakes. cc's pa made strong coffees. cc hummed the 'abc' song and stomped his bare feet 'til it was time to sit down and toast the start of advent with the first breakfast of december.
the afternoon was spent making toasts too - marking hannukah with cc's little friend zev and his lovely folks. their table was filled with traditional fried foods and nova scotian wines. brown parcels holding tiny toy animals were passed out to the little ones. games were played. then these two boys clambered into zev's toy box for a round of tickles and happy hannukah squeals. cc was in heaven.

no or yes?.

cc's words are tumbling out now.
turning three, settling into his big brother role and meeting up with other little folk seems to set his mind rolling. cc's most spoken saying at the moment is no or yes? he says it at the end of anything - its morning time, no or yes? daddys making some juice, no or yes? today is cold and windy outside, no or yes? some other recent cc's sayings:

.these blue babies are not good. they taste spicy. i think maybe they rotted. (after biting a sour blueberry)

.some kitty cats are black. sometimes gray. maybe i like the white ones actually, they are the naughty ones.

.he wants moneys? moneys to help his beards grow? (after passing a busker with a super long beard)

.sometimes clement just needs munk (milk) mummy then he's good. feed him now. ok?

.you're been silly. so silly. talk enormous (normal) daddy. (said laughing when his pa reads storybooks with strange accents.

.its my birfday now? this is now? today is now? wow! (then super loudly..) clem-ent its my birfday today sing happy birfday to me, your brother.

three.

cc turned a wonderful three today.
these past twelve months have seen him become a big brother, enjoy visits from family back home, start at a little pre-school, make some lovely new friendships and seen his talking truly take off. now those words tumble out.
this morning, following a milk and banana bread breakfast, some friends came by to toast cc's special day. the little folk screamed and played and filled mabel with cheer for a good few hours. unicorn cookies and berries were shared. then cc's chocolate cake - adorned with animals in homemade miniature party hats - was devoured. cc was so tremendously excited. here's to turning three little man, and all the wonders this next year will bring.

little c.

this fellow has such a wonderful character.
and the most animated expressions.
he has a distinct chuckle that he shares often.
a deep stare that follows us around the room
and two neat dimples framing his ready smile.
settled around the table during mealtimes,
he watches the family eat, tapping his fists
and drooling at his big brother in wonder.
sometimes we hum tunes as he starts to tire
then watch him slowly start to fall asleep.
it is one of the most calming moments of the day.
here's to you little clement frank. we love you so.

from the weekend.

the seasons are shifting again already. since november arrived temperatures have stayed super low and it feels like the long canadian winter will soon be here.
we spent the weekend wrapped up in sweaters and toques. taking family walks. making a bubble and squeak breakfast for friends. trying to fix up odd corners around mabel. smiling at cc and his endless sayings.
these pictures were taken during saturday morning coffees down by the sea. cc is constantly asking to hold clement these days. he is so proud to be a brother at the moment and tells any folk passing by 'this is clem-ent. he's my baby. say hi clem-ent.'

farewell october.

a storm has arrived here in time to mark the passing of october.
to blow away the fevers and tiredness that filled the month.
and to those night times that seemed to never end.

the tenth month brought goodness too though.
autumn arrived and a covering of fallen leaves turned each street crimson.
cc found a love for even more words.
and little clement turned five months old.

so farewell october.
and we welcome november and all the wonders of winter we hope you will bring.

halloween eve.

these days the sound of clement practicing his five month coos, or claude humming his abc's starts the mornings super early, while the moon is still in the sky. the two misters then continue their brotherly antics (and shared dislike of daytime naps) 'til the nova scotian sun starts to set and sleep finally beckons.

to toast the eve of halloween today we dressed up ready for a spooky party held at cc's pa's work. cc asked to go dressed as an autumn tree. 'one with red leaves that say swoosh' he said, adding 'I need to be a man tree and wear a moustache'. and so he was the most handsome, moustached tree that ever was...though clement's tiny hands couldn't resist tugging off a leaf or two.
happy halloween eve.
